Subject: Inalienable and Non-Negotiable observance of International Law and

Non-Recognition of the ‘Pseudo-state’ of the ‘Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus’

With particular discomfort we have been informed of the intention of the Turkish Student Union of the United Kingdom (TUSU), and the Turkish Society of King’s College London to organize a public event entitled: Cyprus: Status Quo or Anew?, with the ‘Deputy Prime Minister’ and ‘Foreign Minister’ of the non-recognized entity of the ‘Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus’, Mr. Kudret Özersay, as honored guest and keynote speaker.

The provision of a footing and the promotion of falsified testimony of the so-called state of ‘Northern Cyprus’ is upsetting and at the same time deeply troubling towards the academic community of the University of London and the graduates of King’s College London, as the venue is to be hosted on College grounds.

Public expression of support stemming from the ‘TRNC Representative Office’ for the above-mentioned venue provides ample proof of the effort to guide the always welcoming and academically liberal edifice of King’s College manipulatively.

The King’s College London Alumni Association of Greece expresses its complete opposition in holding such an event as it provides a step towards the desecration of the history of the Cyprus tragedy and the display and unilateral viewing of the Pseudo-state and its provocative political objectives.

Today, 60 years since the Independence of the Republic of Cyprus, the restoration of its territorial integrity remains pending and the healing of the consequences of the 1974 Turkish invasion is absent.

The challenge of those who conspire against the sovereignty of a unitary Cyprus and promote its partition and the non-resolution of the Cyprus problem requires a firm response.

For these reasons, we, as members and graduates of the academic community of King’s College London, request that a classroom space is not provided to Mr. Kudret Özersay and that neither he nor the regime he ‘represents’ are to be allowed to project their falsified positions.

We hope that the President & Principal, the Professors and Students of King’s College London will recognize that they can contribute more to the resolution of the Cyprus drama by promoting scientific action that secures both academic freedom and the effort of sincere support for Cypriot bi-communal relations.
